BREAKING: Pirates Selecting Contract of Alika Williams
A baseball source has confirmed that the Pittsburgh Pirates are selecting the contract of INF Alika Williams from Triple-A Indianapolis.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Pirates are placing INF Tucupita Marcano on the IL.
It is not clear on how long Marcano will be on the IL, but he was removed from Monday night’s game with what the Pirates are describing as a “ligamentous injury to the right knee”
Williams, since being acquired by the Pirates in the Robert Stephenson trade has been on a tear in Triple-A.
Williams is slashing .305/.384/.531 with an OPS of .915. In addition, Williams has batted in 20 runs and has smashed 15 extra-base hits (eight doubles, seven homers) in 128 at-bats in Indianapolis.
As a cool side note, the Pirates are in San Diego and Williams grew up in the San Diego area (Rancho Bernardo High School). Should be a cool major league debut in his hometown.
