The Pittsburgh Pirates appear to be getting closer to getting back their third baseman. Ke’Bryan Hayes will begin a Triple-A rehab assignment on Tuesday with the Indianapolis Indians.

Hayes has been suffering from a lower-back injury that first landed him on the injured list on June 28. After being activated on July 6, Hayes was again placed on the IL with the same injury the very next day.

The 26-year-old has played in 75 games this season for the Pirates. On the year, he has hit .252 with a .683 OPS, 16 doubles, five triples, five homers, 32 RBIs and nine steals.

Hayes has showcased his usual strong defensive abilities with 10 defensive runs saved and a .986 fielding percentage at the hot corner this season.
