Pittsburgh Pirates, Jack Suwinski

Jack Suwinski gave the Pittsburgh Pirates a 1-0 walk-off win over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday evening to put an end to a five-game losing streak.

Suwinski’s game-winning base hit came after rookie sensation Jared Jones delivered his best start of the year. The right-hander allowed just one hit in seven innings and struck out 10 batters without any walks.

The Pirates will go for the series win over the Rockies on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday’s first pitch is 1:35 ET and the game will be televised on SportsNet Pittsburgh.

Weather

Cloudy skies with temperatures in the 70s. Chance for a thunderstorm later in the game. Winds SW-SSW at 8 mph.

The Pittsburgh Pirates Will Send Out LHP Bailey Falter (2-2, 4.22 ERA)

Falter struggled some for the first time in a while in his last start against the A’s in Oakland.

The left-hander allowed five runs in five innings pitched and yielded one home run. Falter allowed six hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out five.

Over his last four starts before his one in Oakland, Falter had a sparkling 1.57 ERA and held opponents to a .150 batting average accompanied by a .441 OPS.

Falter has logged 3.1 innings across three relief appearances against the Rockies in his career and has been tagged for five runs.

The Colorado Rockies Will Send Out RHP Ryan Feltner (1-2, 5.13 ERA)

Feltner worked eight innings in his last start and allowed three runs on five hits against the Miami Marlins.

It was a much-needed quality start for the 27-year-old, who allowed 10 runs on 19 hits in 9.1 innings over his previous two starts.

Feltner had one previous meeting with the Pirates and held them to two runs in five innings while striking out seven batters.

Rockies Hitters vs. Falter

  • Jacob Stallings: 1 for 5, two strikeouts

Pirates Hitters vs. Feltner

  • Rowdy Tellez: 4 for 6, three doubles, one RBI
  • Bryan Reynolds: 1 for 3, one double
  • Ke’Bryan Hayes: 0 for 3, two RBIs, one strikeout
  • Joey Bart: 1 for 2, one home run, one RBI, one strikeout

Tidbits

  • Jared Jones now has four outings with seven-plus strikeouts and no walks, the most ever by a Major League pitcher in their first seven career games.
  • Yasmani Grandal singled in his first at-bat with the Pirates on Saturday. It was the first hit by a Pirates’ catcher since Joey Bart hit a three-run home run against the Brewers on Apr. 25.
  • If the Pirates are able to win the series, it will be their first series victory since taking two of three from the Orioles in the first home series of the season.
