Pirates Recall Carmen Mlodzinski, Option Quinn Priester
The Pittsburgh Pirates have added a bullpen reinforcement, recalling right-hander Carmen Mlodzinski from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Mlodzinski began the season on the injured list with elbow inflammation and was sent to Triple-A Indianapolis — where he has spent the season — upon his return. With Indianapolis, Mlodzinski posted a 6.60 ERA and struck out 13 batters in 15 innings through 13 appearances.
The 25-year-old established himself as an important piece of the Pirates’ bullpen last season. In his rookie campaign, Mldozinski went 3-3 with a 2.25 ERA and recorded one save through 35 appearances.
To make room for Mlodzinki on the active roster, the Pirates optioned right-handed starter Quinn Priester to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Priester was the Pirates’ starter against the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night and allowed four runs over six innings pitched.
The Pirates’ 2019 first-round pick has gone 0-4 with a 4.33 ERA through five starts on the year.
