Ke'Bryan Hayes, MLB Offseason, Pittsburgh Pirates

Welcome to the first edition of our offseason round-up, where we will be highlighting news and notes during the 2023-24 MLB offseason.

On Sunday, the 2023 Gold Glove winners were unveiled and Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes was one of the winners. Hayes became the first Pirates’ third baseman in franchise history to win the award.

The full list of winners can be found below.

In other news, the Miami Marlins are set to hire former Tampa Bay Rays general manager Peter Bendix as their new President of Baseball Operations. Bendix will replace Kim Ng, who surprisingly will not return to the Marlins in 2024.

Bendix had been serving as the Rays’ GM for two seasons under President of Baseball Operations Erik Neander.

The first significant trade of the MLB offseason took place over the weekend with the Detroit Tigers acquiring Mark Canha from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for minor league pitcher Blake Holub.

Canha, 34, is a nine-year major league veteran and and hit .262 with a .755 OPS in 139 games between the Brewers and New York Mets last season.

Holub is a 25-year-old, right-handed reliever who posted a 3.03 ERA in 65.0 innings in the Tigers’ system last season.

Stay tuned at Pittsburgh Baseball Now this week as our staff will be discussing free agents the Pirates should target this winter with Griffin Floyd starting things off later in the day.
