Pirates Prospect Watch: Josiah Sightler Continues to Rake

Pirates minor league teams went 3-1 on the day, with some hot-hitting performances from the young Bucs in Bradenton.



Here are the notable performances from Friday.

Triple-A Indianapolis Indians (44-49)

SS Alika Williams

  • Game: 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and a walk.
  • Season: .264/.345/.467 with 18 doubles, one triple and 12 home runs.

LF/3B Ryan Vilade

  • Game: 2-for-4 with a walk.
  • Season: .274/.390/.384 with 12 doubles, two triples and four home runs. 

Indianapolis blew past the Iowa Cubs with a 9-6 win. Williams homered, as did Chris Owings, and a three-run ninth inning was the difference for the Indians. 

Double-A Altoona Curve (41-42)

C Abrahan Gutierrez

  • Game: 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
  • Season: ..274/.390/.384 with ten doubles and five home runs in 49 games between Greensboro and Altoona.

The Curve managed just five hits, one of which went for extra bases, in their 4-1 loss to the Reading Fightin Phils. Starter Anthony Solometo had a relative down night, getting pulled after 78 pitches and 4.2 innings, surrendering three runs.

High-A Greensboro Grasshoppers (43-42)

C Wyatt Hendrie

  • Game: 2-for-4 with a triple and a walk. 
  • Season: .226/.341/.360 with nine doubles, two triples and five home runs in 54 games between Bradenton and Greensboro.

RHP J.P. Massey

  • Game: 4 IP, one hit, three walks and one earned run. 
  • Season: 4-5 with a 3.54 ERA and 70 strikeouts in 68.2 innings pitched across Bradenton and Greensboro.

The Grasshoppers took down the Wilmington Blue Rocks 7-3 behind an all-around solid performance. All but one batter saw at least one base knock, and Ernny Ordonez and Shawn Ross each contributed a home run.

Single-A Bradenton Marauders (51-36)

2B Termarr Johnson

  • Game: 3-for-5 with a homer and a walk.
  • Season: ..256/.419/.471 with ten doubles, one triple and 12 home runs.

1B Josiah Sightler

  • Game: 4-for-5 with a double, a homer, and three RBI.
  • Season: .449/.520/.756 with six doubles and six home runs in 22 games.

Bradenton raced out to an 11-3 win over the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels. 2022 15th round pick Josiah Sightler continues to rake, going 4-for-5 on the day with a pair of extra base hits to push his OPS to 1.276. Termarr Johnson added his 12th home run of the season.
