Andrew McCutchen has been scratched from the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Friday lineup against the Toronto Blue Jays with a left ankle sprain. McCutchen was slated to bat third and be designated hitter.

McCutchen was replaced by Mark Mathias, who will take over DH duties and bat eighth. Carlos Santana slid up to the third spot in the lineup in place of McCutchen.

It’s unclear exactly when or how the sprain occurred, but the Pirates will be without McCutchen’s services for at least one game. Further updates will be provided when available.

The revised lineup for Friday night is as follows:

  1. Bae 2B
  2. Reynolds LF
  3. Santana 1B
  4. Suwinski CF
  5. Andujar RF
  6. Castro 3B
  7. Marcano SS
  8. Mathias DH
  9. Hedges C
