PITTSBURGH – Damar Hamlin got the chance to enjoy a cool hometown moment Tuesday night.

The Buffalo Bills safety threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the San Diego Padres at 9-4 at PNC Park. Andrew McCutchen was on the receiving end.

Hamlin grew up in McKees Rock then starred in high school at Central Catholic and college at Pitt.

“I feel like a kid on Christmas here today,” Hamlin said.

Hamlin’s story captivated the nation when he went into cardiac arrest while making a tackle on Jan. 2 against the Bengals in Cincinnati. Hamlin had to be resuscitated on the field before being rushed to a hospital.

Now, Hamlin is fully recovered and cleared to play in the upcoming season.
