Pirates Place Michael Chavis on IL; Recall Hoy Park

The Pirates announced today that Michael Chavis has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow strain and have recalled Hoy Park from Indianapolis to take his place.

Chavis suffered the injury in Saturday’s 13-0 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

In six game with the Pirates since being recalled, Chavis hit .364 with a .955 OPS. Acquired at the trade deadline from Boston, Chavis played both the infield and the outfield with the Pirates.

Park slashed .200/.250/.317 in 18 games with Pittsburgh before being optioned to Indianapolis on Aug. 23. He is in Tuesday’s lineup at second base and batting eighth.
