Pirates Prospect Watch: Harrington Dazzles in Start For Greensboro



Pittsburgh Pirates-Tyler Samaniego

Thomas Harrington was drafted 36th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022 and he’s had an excellent first professional season.

For the third time in 2023, Harrington pitched seven complete innings and in each start, he gave up one run or less.

Other than Harrington, the Pirates had another intriguing prospect put together a good start in Altoona. Let’s look at how said prospect did on the farm, shall we?

Indianapolis (54-62)

DH Mason Martin

  • Game stats: 1-4, a double, and two RBIs
  • Season stats: .222/.372/.455, 16 homers, one triple, 12 doubles, and 49 RBIs (266 at-bats, or 81 games between Double-A and Triple-A

LF Chris Owings

  • Game stats: 1-3, one run scored, and two RBIs
  • Season stats: .232/.341/.438, ten homers, two triples, 12 doubles, and 24 RBIs (224 at-bats, or 60 games)

Luis Ortiz didn’t have the best of outings on Friday night. In 4.2 innings pitched, Ortiz allowed nine hits, five runs, three walks, and struck out six.

The offense for Indianapolis barely showed up. Not one hitter had more than one hit, and as a result, the Indians lost 8-5

Altoona (52-57)

LHP Jackson Wolf

  • Game stats: 5.0 IP, two hits, no runs, one walk, and three strikeouts
  • Season stats: 8-10, 4.00 ERA, 101.1 IP, 27 walks, and 119 strikeouts in 21 games (21 starts)

DH Joe Perez

  • Game stats: 2-4 with two singles
  • Season stats: .266/.333/.415, 11 homers, two triples, 14 doubles, and 50 RBIs (342 at-bats, or 93 games

Jackson Wolf pitched a wonderful game for the Curve. Despite his start, the Curve offense couldn’t muster much and lost 3-1 against Bowie.

In addition, Tsung-Che Cheng was the only player for the Curve to register an RBI, and Perez was the only player with more than one hit.

Greensboro (59-50)

C Wyatt Hendrie

  • Game stats: 1-2, a homer, three RBIs, and a walk
  • Season stats: .230/.348/.365, six homers, two triples, nine doubles, and 27 RBIs (230 at-bats, or 67 games between Low-A and High-A)

RHP Thomas Harrington

  • Game stats: 7.0 IP, two hits one run, two walks, and eight strikeouts
  • Season stats: 6-5, 3.66 ERA, 108.1 IP, 32 walks, and 125 strikeouts

For the third time in his first professional season, Harrington pitched seven innings in a game. The other two occurrences for Harrington happened on June 8 and Aug. 1 .

The Grasshoppers’ offense put together five runs thanks to a three-run homer from Hendrie in the bottom of the seventh inning. Greensboro beat Bowling Green 5-3

Bradenton (63-48)

RHP Jorge Ramos

Game stats: 2.2 IP, no hits, no runs, two walks, and two strikeouts

Season stats: 3-1, 3.34 ERA, 29.2 IP, 15 walks, and 28 strikeouts in 19 games between the FCL and Low-A (no starts)

1B Juan Jerez

Game stats: 1-2 with a walk

Season stats: .229/.386/.375, two homers, one triple, six doubles, and 17 RBIs (96 at-bats, or 32 games between the FCL and Low-A)

Bradenton played one of their worst games of the season on Friday night. Hunter Barco lasted a third of an inning, and there were only three hits for the offense.

Jerez was the first player to get a hit for Bradenton. The Marauders lost 9-0 against Lakeland.
