Pirates Prospects
Pirates Prospect Watch: Reed, Hilson Star For Marauders
Pirates’ minor league affiliates played in three games on Friday night, picking up two wins despite anemic offense across the board.
Triple-A Indianapolis saw their game postponed due to inclement weather: they’ll make it up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday.
The Altoona Curve fell 6-2 to the Akron Rubber Ducks. Graham Ashcraft allowed four runs in five innings, while the Curve offense didn’t manage any extra base hits.
The Greensboro Grasshoppers didn’t hit anything harder than a single either, but they still picked up a 4-2 win, recording their hits in clutch moments. Right-hander J.P. Massey pitched five innings of two-run ball, striking out seven batters and picking up the win.
Single-A Bradenton eked out a 1-0 win thanks to an eighth-inning homer from P.J. Hilson and another strong start from WVU product Carlson Reed. Landon Tomkins punched out one batter in the ninth to secure his first save of the season.
Here’s a look at the top performing Pirates’ prospects as the weekend kicks off.
