Pirates Spring Preview: Grapefruit League Opener vs. Twins

The Pittsburgh Pirates are playing a real life baseball game on Saturday. That’s right, the Bucs open up their Grapefruit League schedule as the travel to Fort Myers for a date with the Minnesota Twins at 1:05 ET.

Left-hander Bailey Falter will get the start in the Pirates’ spring opener. Falter is in competition for one of the two open rotation spots. He’ll kick off the competition as the first man out this spring.

Among the other pitchers scheduled to pitch for the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday is prospect Jared Jones. Jones is considered the Pirates’ third-best prospect and 62nd-best in baseball according to MLB Pipeline.

Other pitchers set to appear on Saturday: Michael Plassmeyer, Josh Fleming, Jose Hernandez, Kyle Nicolas and Hunter Stratton.

  5. Edward Olivares LF

The Twins’ probable pitchers are: Louie Varland, Caleb Thielbar, Jorge Alcala, Zack Weiss, Daniel Durante, Jeff Brigham and Justin Topa.

The game will not be televised, but you can listen on 93.7 The Fan.
