Prospect Mason Martin Slowly Taking Steps in Right Direction (+)

Pittsburgh Pirates, Mason Martin

ALTOONA — When you discuss power in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system, very few prospects come to mind as guys with mammoth, almost freakish power.

One guy leading the “freakish” power category in the Pirates system has got to be 1B prospect, Mason Martin.

Martin, as we all know, has his fair share of issues at the plate, and right at the top of the list is his strikeout/walk rate. The problem isn’t hard contact; it’s getting to the point of making consistent contact.

While I was at batting practice on Thursday and Friday, I noticed Martin having deep conversations with Altoona hitting coach Jon Nunnally.
