Pirates Spring Preview: Roansy Contreras Gets First Audition vs. Blue Jays
Roansy Contreras is competing for one of the two open rotation spots on the Pittsburgh Pirates opening day roster. He’ll be tested for the first time on Monday.
Contreras will be on the mound for the Pirates (0-2) when they take on the Toronto Blue Jays (0-2) at TD Ballpark in Dunedin at 1:07 ET.
Contreras is looking to bounce back from a disastrous 2023 season in which he went 3-7 with a 6.59 ERA in 19 appearances/11 starts. The right-hander fared much better in his rookie season in 2022, when he went 5-5 with a 3.79 ERA.
Contreras’ battery mate against Toronto will be Jason Delay, who will make his first appearance in a spring game this year. Henry Davis will be the Pirates’ designated hitter.
