Pirates Prospect Watch: Blake Sabol’s Successful Season Continues
Blake Sabol began this season with Double-A Altoona after splitting time last year between High-A Greensboro and Single-A Bradenton.
Last year was a breakout season of sorts for the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2019 seventh-round draft choice. In 66 games between the two levels, Sabol finished with a .310 batting average, a .957 OPS and 13 home runs.
As a prospect works his way up the ladder, the competition gets stiffer. Don’t tell that to Sabol.
In 98 games with Altoona this season, Sabol continued to produce at the plate. He slashed .281/.347/.486 with 23 doubles, five triples, 14 home runs and 60 RBIs.
The performance earned the 24-year-old a promotion to Triple-A at the end of August. At the highest level of the minor leagues, Sabol has continued to produce.
Here are the performers of note from Monday for the Indians.
Indianapolis Indians (74-73)
LF Blake Sabol
- Game:Â 2 for 3 with a walk and a run
- Season:Â .307/.430/.573, three doubles, one triple, five home runs, 15 RBIs, 23 games
DH Brendt Citta
- Game:Â 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI
- Season:Â .265/.342/.449, 10 doubles, five home runs, 27 RBIs, 39 games
The Indians were thumped 17-1 by the Columbus Clippers but Sabol and Citta were the bright spots for Indianapolis.
Sabol’s performance bumped his season OPS with at Triple-A to 1.003. Citta was responsible for driving in the team’s lone run.
The only other player with a hit in the Indians’ lineup was first baseman Mason Martin, who went 1 for 3.
