Pirates Transactions: Pirates Claim Connor Overton, Place Underwood Jr on 60-Day IL

During Monday’s game against the Detroit Tigers, the Pittsburgh Pirates have claimed right-handed pitcher Connor Overton off of waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays. Overton, standing 6’0, weighing 190 pounds, has pitched 6.2 scoreless innings for the Blue Jays in 2021 while also giving up four hits, walking two, and striking out four.

The 28-year-old Overton has been placed in the Triple-A Indianapolis roster. To make room for Overton on the 40-man, the Pirates have transferred recently injured Duane Underwood Jr. from the 10-day IL to the 60-day IL, effectively ending Underwood’s 2021 season.
