Pirates Transactions Bednar Reinstated, Keller Optioned to Triple-A

The Pirates have announced that right-handed pitcher David Bednar has been reinstated from the 10-day IL. To make room for Bednar, the Pirates have optioned Kyle Keller down to the Triple-A team.

Bednar has been on the IL since September 14th with a right oblique strain. Since coming to the Pirates, Bednar has pitched in 57.2 innings and has struck out 73. Bednar is holding opponents to a .181 average and carries a WHIP of 0.86. One would assume that Bednar takes over the “closer” role again.

Since picking him up from the Los Angeles Angels, the Kyle Keller experiment hasn’t panned out the way Ben Cherington had planned on. Keller is carrying a 6.75 ERA, 1.53 WHIP in 29.1 innings pitched. With a 40-man crunch coming, there would be no shock if Keller has seen the last of a Pirates uniform.
