The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Carmen Mldozinski from Triple-A Indianapolis and optioned fellow right-hander Kyle Nicolas. Mlodzinski is active for Wednesday’s series finale against the Miami Marlins.

The Pirates decided to use Mlodzinski in their rotation to start the season after he spent the last two seasons pitching out of the bullpen. In nine starts to begin the season, he went 1-4 with a 5.67 ERA (25er/39.2ip) and struck out 28 batters.

Mlodzinski was optioned to Indianapolis on May 21, where he continued his work as a starting pitcher. In three starts with Indianapolis, the 26-year-old went 2-0 with a 1.15 ERA (2er/15.2ip). He allowed 11 hits, walked seven and struck out 16 batters. Mlodzinski was scratched from his start with Indianapolis on Tuesday night ahead of getting recalled.

In 75 appearances while operating primarily as a reliever with the Pirates from 2023-24, Mlodzinski went 8-8 with a 2.91 ERA (28er/86.2ip) and recorded one save.

As for Nicolas, the right-hander made three appearances out of the bullpen and allowed one run in 4.1 innings since he was recalled on June 3.

In 10 appearances on the season with the Pirates, Nicolas has a 7.50 ERA (10er/12.0ip). Command has been an issue for the 26-year-old as evident by nine walks against eight strikeouts. Opponents have hit .260 with an .827 OPS against him.

Additionally, catcher Joey Bart will begin a rehab assignment with Indianapolis on Wednesday afternoon. Bart was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list on May 28.

Bart has totaled 44 games with the Pirates this season and is slashing .240/.347/.308 with five doubles, one triple, one home run and 11 RBI.

In addition to Bart, catcher Endy RodrĂguez is on the 10-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. Henry Davis has handled the Pirates’ primary catching duties and Brett Sullivan was recalled from Indianapolis earlier in the homestand.

BUT Hey Lets Make Him a Starter

john benedict

How the GM along w 6th year unfit skip wrecked another season before it began

The deadline adds plus the plethora of pitching ready to impact or be dealt
had me feeling optimistic for 2025
Here’s why

FOR SURES (8) under contract

C- Bart, Endy

INF- Gonzo, Hayes, Kiner, Triolo

OF- Cruz, Brey,
——————————

LIKELY (2)
Cook and Yorke held their own after SEPT CALLS
——————————-

FA or TRADE (3)
CUTCH a no brainer

LEAVING (2) ADDS
LH First baseman- HORWITZ

STILL LOOKING GOOD
——————————-

PHAM AND FRAZIER

Pham signed to lead by example, so far he’s has more suspensions than HR
Getting paid 4M to block the future who last SEPT produced more in 3 weeks

COOK- 49 AB, HAD 8 RBI AND 5 XBH (3 HR, 2 DOUBLES)

PHAM SO FAR 8 RBI AND 4 XBH (ALL DOUBLES)
The unfit skip then played him as the starting RF until he was finally sacked
Then DK his first week sacked Pham more than the knucklehead did all year

MLODZINSKI EXPERIMENT FAILED MISERABLY HURT TEAM SO MANY WAYS

ROTATION-MUDGE’S weak starts put an inept offense in a hole
while his short outings taxed the pen only to be handed to a former bench coach who’s shown he is incapable of handling of handling a staff

PIRATES WILL NEVER BE HURT BY SEASON TICKET HOLDERS TURNING THEIR BACKS ON THEM LIKE I DID.

LAST SEPT WHEN I DECLINED MY 2025 INVITE TO PICK SEATS AND PLAN
THEY ASKED WHY? I SAID

“I feel the futures bright, seats behind the dugout top notch
flexible ticket exchange and the players are really cool
However when leaked BC was retaining the guy in charge of losing, I passed”

SENIOR TICKET EXECUTIVE RESPONSE

“BELIEVE ME, YOUR NOT THE ONLY ONE”
