Pirates Roster Moves: Burrows to Replace Mlodzinski in Rotation

The Pittsburgh Pirates have recalled right-handed pitcher Mike Burrows from Triple-A Indianapolis to replaced Carmen Mlodzinski in the starting rotation. Mlodzinski is getting sent down.
Burrows, who will start for the Pirates on Thursday night against the Brewers, made eight appearances/seven starts with Indianapolis on the season prior to getting recalled.
On the year, Burrows is 2-1 with a 2.51 ERA. The right-hander has struck out 41 batters and walked 11 in 32.1 innings while holding opponents to a .195 batting average.
In his minor-league career, Burrows is 12-15 with a 3.58 ERA across 78 appearances/73 starts.
Burrows made his MLB debut at the end of last season against the Yankees in New York and got the win after allowing two runs (one earned) with a pair of strikeouts in 3.1 innings of relief. He was briefly recalled earlier this season but did not appear in a game.
The Pirates opted to use Mlodzinski as a starting pitcher this season after he spent the last two seasons in the bullpen. Through his first nine starts on the year, he went 1-4 with a 5.67 ERA.
The right-hander has allowed just one total run through the first two innings of his starts this season but has been charged with 24 earned runs in the third through fifth innings.
Combined between the 2023-24 seasons, Mlodzinski went 8-8 and posted a respectable 2.91 ERA with one save.
