Oneil Cruz, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates snapped their six-game losing streak thanks to a 4-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday night at PNC Park.

Jared Jones continued his impressive rookie season with six strong innings for the Pirates (12-11) in the win. Andrew McCutchen led off the bottom of the first with a home run and Oneil Cruz drove in a pair of runs on a base hit the other way. Both players finished with three hits.

The Pirates will look to make it back-to-back wins over the Brewers (14-7) in the second game of their four-game series.

Tuesday’s first pitch is set for 6:40 ET and the game will be aired on SportsNet Pittsburgh.

Weather

Cloudy skies with temperatures around 67 degrees at first pitch. Chance for rain late in the game. Winds SSW at 12-13 mph.

The Pittsburgh Pirates Will Send Out LHP Bailey Falter (1-1, 4.05 ERA)

Falter has looked like an entirely new pitcher over his last three starts. During that stretch, he’s allowed  three runs in 16 innings pitched (1.69 ERA) and has only walked two batters.

In his last start against the Mets, Falter pitched five innings and allowed two runs, both of which came on a Starling Marte two-run home run. The left-hander struck out a season-high four batters.

Falter has pitched well in two appearances (one start) against the Brewers in his career. He’s pitched to a 1.17 ERA with one run against him in 7.2 innings pitched.

The Milwaukee Brewers Have Yet to Announce a Starter

Veteran left-hander Wade Miley was scheduled to start for the Brewers but was placed on the 15-day injured list on Monday with elbow inflammation.

Right-hander Tobias Myers was recalled from Triple-A to take his place on the roster and is a candidate to start on Tuesday. His first appearance will be his MLB debut.

Brewers Hitters vs. Falter

  • William Contreras: 2 for 5, one home run, two RBIs, one strikeout
  • Willy Adames: 1 for 3
  • Brice Turang: 1 for 3

Tidbits

  • Jared Jones struck out seven batters on Monday and has recorded at least seven strikeouts in each of his first five starts, which ties the major-league record.
  • Jones now has 98 swing-and-misses through five career games, 14 more than the previous-best by a Major League pitcher of 84 by Masahiro Tanaka in 2014 since pitch data started being tracked in 2008
  • Andrew McCutchen’s leadoff home run was his 11th with the Pirates, putting him in sole possession of second place on the franchise list behind Barry Bonds (20).
