Pirates Preview: 4th of July Matinee With Cardinals
The Pittsburgh Pirates were 5-4 walk-off winners against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night at PNC Park.
Bryan Reynolds tied the game a 4-all in the 10th inning and on the very next pitch, Oneil Cruz came through with the walk-off knock off of lefty JoJo Romero.
The Pirates (41-44) will go for the series win against the Cardinals (44-41) in the rubber game on Independence Day.
First pitch is set for 12:35 ET and the game will be aired on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Happy Fourth of July to all!

The Pittsburgh Pirates Will Send Out LHP Martín Pérez (1-4, 5.28 ERA)
Pérez returned from the injured list and started against the Braves in Atlanta on Friday.
It was a rough outing for the left-hander, who allowed six runs on eight hits in four innings. He walked a pair and struck out four.
Dating back to the start of May, Pérez has an 8.44 ERA in six starts. Through the end of April, he carried a very healthy 2.86 ERA.
In three starts against the Cardinals in his career, Pérez has gone 1-0 with a 2.79 ERA.
The St. Louis Cardinals Will Send Out RHP Andre Pallante (4-3, 4.50 ERA)
Pallante tossed 5.1 innings of shutout ball against the Reds in his last start and got the win. He’s won three of the last four games he’s pitched.
The Cardinals transitioned Pallante from the bullpen to the starting rotation at the end of May and his last six appearances have all come as a starter.
Pallante has been inconsistent since his role changed but has a respectable 3.86 ERA as a starting pitcher this year.
In his career against Pittsburgh, he’s made 13 relief appearances and is 0-1 with a 5.14 ERA.

Tidbits
- Oneil Cruz’s walk-off was the third of his career and second of the season. He hit a walk-off against the Baltimore Orioles in the first homestand of the season.
- Rowdy Tellez went 3 for 4 with a home run in the win. It was his fourth three-hit game of the season.
- Aroldis Chapman was the winning pitcher, collecting his first win with the Pirates. He handled the final two innings of the game. It was the first time with the Pirates that Chapman had pitched more than one inning.
