Pirates Minor League Report: Jared Jones Makes First Rehab Start
Flamethrowing Pirates’ right-hander Jared Jones made his return to game action after missing more than a month with a lat strain, ramping gently back up for big league ball with 47 pitches and 2.2 innings of work in Indianapolis. While he did allow two runs during his time on the mound, injury rehab is as much about the process as the results.
Triple-A Indianapolis went on to lose 3-1 to the Nashville Sounds. Mike Burrows took another big step in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, pitching five scoreless innings in relief of Jones, his longest (and only scoreless) appearance of the season.
The theme of returns continued in Altoona, where Anthony Solometo made his first start for the Curve in nearly two months after spending time on the Development List and in Pirate City, Florida. The 21-year-old left-hander managed 1.2 innings, striking out a pair of batters but dealing with spotty command and allowing two runs. Altoona went on to lose 4-2 to the Portland Sea Dogs.
Bradenton defeated the St. Lucie Mets 10-1, riding five innings of one-run ball from Michael Kennedy and a four hit game by 19 year old prospect Jhonny Severino. 2024 tenth round pick Derek Berg, the highest-drafted position player in West Point history, logged his first professional homer in inside-the-park fashion, capitalizing on lucky bounces as he chugged around the bases.
