Pirates Prospect Watch: Another Day, Another Matt Gorski Homer
Stop me if you’ve heard this before: Pirates’ prospect Matt Gorski hit yet another home run yesterday, pushing his total to nine on the season and eight in the past 12 games.
While Mondays typically serve as off days during the Minor League season, giving clubs a chance to travel ahead of their six-game long series that typically take up an entire week, baseball and Memorial Day have long been intertwined. In addition to its military significance, the holiday serves as a colloquial kick-off to the summer season, making it go perfectly hand in hand with America’s Pastime.
As such, the Indianapolis Indians started this week’s series against the Omaha Storm Chasers a day early, pushing their off day to Tuesday in order to help observe the holiday in typical baseball fashion. They didn’t disappoint for the 7,614 fans in attendance at Victory Field in Indianapolis, bringing home an 11-3 win thanks to yet another home run from Matt Gorski, a well-pitched bullpen game from a handful of arms, and strong days at the plate from Jack Suwinski, Liover Peguero and Henry Davis. Indianapolis jumped out to an 11-0 lead after four innings, cruising to victory from there on out.
The other three Pirates’ affiliates stuck to their usual travel regimens, so here’s a look at how the Triple-A farmhands performed to cap the holiday weekend.
