Pirates’ affiliates logged two notable milestones on Sunday, with Thomas Harrington and Carlson Reed making their Triple-A and High-A debuts, respectively: the next stop in the system for each young pitching prospect.

Triple-A Indianapolis lost 10-8 to the Toledo Mud Hens, allowing the two decisive runs in the ninth inning as bullpen collapses continue to plague the organization from Bradenton to the big leagues. Thomas Harrington got roughed up in his first start for Indianapolis, allowing five runs in 5.2 innings. Billy Cook, one of the Pirates’ trade deadline acquisitions, came a triple shy of the cycle.

Altoona lost 9-7 to the Richmond Flying Squirrels, again allowing four runs in the ninth inning. Yoyner Fajardo, who the Pirates picked up from Minnesota back in June, capped a strong weekend at the plate, reaching base four times.

Greensboro split an impromptu doubleheader, completing the final three innings and change of Saturday’s nightcap before their scheduled contest. Carlson Reed made his High-A debut in the first game, sneaking in 3.1 scoreless innings before the field became unplayable.

The Grasshoppers went on to win 6-1 once play resumed on Sunday, then dropped the second game 3-2 as their bats fell quiet.

Bradenton plated one run in the ninth but couldn’t steal a win from the Palm Beach Cardinals, losing 5-4. 19-year-old right-hander Clevari Tejada—who largely served as a reliever in rookie ball earlier this year—made his first start for Bradenton, allowing one earned run in four innings. Yordany De Los Santos, Miguel Sosa and Shalin Polanco all doubled as part of two-hit games.
