Pirates Minor League Report: Dominic Perachi Back in Altoona
Pirates’ affiliates picked up two wins to start the new week of games, with recently-promoted prospects making early impacts for their new clubs.
Triple-A Indianapolis lost 8-4 to the Nashville Sounds, with starting pitcher Aaron Shortridge tagged for seven runs in four innings. Malcom Nuñez and Matt Gorski hit solo homers, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a lopsided outcome.
Things went even worse for Altoona. Pirates’ 2022 eleventh round pick Dominic Perachi, back with the Curve after a brief stint there earlier this season, needed 80 pitches to get through three innings as he struck out five batters. He allowed 2 earned runs (along with another unearned), and Portland managed to get into the bullpen early, taking Altoona down 7-0. Fellow 2022 late round pick Nick Cimillo made it on base four times, but the Curve couldn’t plate any runs.
Bradenton and Greensboro flipped the script, each winning 9-5. 21-year-old designated hitter Omar Alfonzo made it on base in all five plate appearances in his High-A debut, crushing a homer in his first at-bat and accounting for four RBI. Esmerlyn Valdez hit a solo homer that ended up as the winning run for Bradenton, while Justin Miknis hit a three-run double to pad the Marauders’ lead in the ninth.
