MLB Offseason Round-Up: Remaining Free Agent Starting Pitchers

This is one in a series of daily articles highlighting the latest news and notes from the MLB offseason.
With the holiday season in the rearview mirror, the free agent market is getting ready to thaw from its winter freeze.
Plenty of teams have already been active in the starting pitcher market, but there are still numerous teams still looking to add to their rotations. Fortunately, there are still plenty of notable starting pitchers on the market despite a handful finding homes prior to the new year.
Here are the top free agent starting pitchers still on the market.
Blake Snell
- 2023 stats: 14-9, 2.25 ERA, 115 hits, 99 walks, 234 strikeouts, 180 innings, 32 appearances/32 starts
Snell should land one of the largest free agent contracts of any one still on the board after his second-career Cy Young this past season.
Jordan Montgomery
- 2023 stats: 10-11, 3.20 ERA, 177 hits, 48 walks, 166 strikeouts, 188.2 innings, 32 appearances/32 starts
After Snell, Montgomery is likely the most sought after free agent starter left. He even might be the preference for some teams.
Clayton Kershaw
- 2023 stats: 13-5, 2.46 ERA, 100 hits, 40, walks, 137 strikeouts, 131.2 innings, 24 appearances/24 starts
Assuming he returns in 2024, the Dodgers and Rangers are the two speculated landing spots.
Shota Imanaga
- 2023 stats (Japan): 7-5, 2.66 ERA, 138 hits, 24 walks, 188 strikeouts, 159 innings, 24 appearances
Imanaga is the top remaining international free agent left. It’s been speculated he could land a deal for $100M+.
Marcus Stroman
- 2023 stats: 10-9, 3.95 ERA, 120 hits, 52 walks, 119 strikeouts, 136.2 innings, 27 appearances/25 starts
Stroman is back on the market after opting out of his deal with the Cubs coming off of an All-Star appearance in 2023.
Mike Clevinger
- 2023 stats: 9-9, 3.77 ERA, 121 hits, 40 walks, 110 strikeouts, 131.1 innings, 24 appearances/24 starts
Clevinger had a solid first season with the White Sox and is looking to cash in as a free agent for the second-consecutive MLB offseason.
Yariel Rodríguez
- 2023 stats (Japan): Did not pitch in 2023
Rodríguez has spent time both as a starting pitcher during his international career. If he’s looking for a rotation spot somewhere, a team like the Pittsburgh Pirates make sense.
Michael Lorenzen
- 2023 stats: 9-9, 4.18 ERA, 128 hits, 47 walks, 11 strikeouts, 153 innings, 29 appearances/25 starts
Lorenzen has shown he can hold is own as a starter after converting from a bullpen arm.
Sean Manaea
- 2023 stats: 7-6, 4.44 ERA, 104 hits, 42 walks, 128 strikeouts, 117.2 innings, 37 appearances/10 starts
The overall numbers aren’t spectacular, but the left-hander was really good after some midseason adjustments.
