MLB Offseason Round-Up: Four Teams Linked to Blake Snell
This is one in a series of daily articles highlighting the latest news and notes from the MLB offseason.
Blake Snell is right at the top of the list in terms of top remaining free agents still available on the open market.
According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, Snell is drawing interest from a handful of teams. Heyman links the Los Angeles Angels, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies and San Francisco Giants to the left-hander.
Snell, 31, is coming off his second-career Cy Young after a dominant season with the San Diego Padres. He finished the year at 14-9 with a major league-best 2.25 ERA. In 180 innings pitched, Snell racked up 234 strikeouts. Though he led baseball by issuing 99 free passes, he allowed only 115 hits with opponents batting a minuscule .181 against him.
The Phillies have already re-signed Aaron Nola to a long-term deal this winter, which could cap their interest in Snell to some extent. The Angels, Red Sox and Giants all make sense on paper to land the southpaw starter.
Snell is joined by fellow left-hander Jordan Montgomery atop the best starting pitchers still available this MLB offseason. Other starting pitchers still on the market include Marcus Stroman, Shota Imanaga and Lucas Giolito.
OTHER NEWS AND NOTES
- The Chicago White Sox signed left-handed reliever Tim Hill to a one-year, $1.8 million contract, giving them a reinforcement for their bullpen.
