Pirates Prospects, Greensboro grasshoppers

Greensboro Grasshoppers outfielder Jase Bowen spent the 2022-23 offseason in the Land Down Under, playing for the Sydney Blue Sox of the Australian Baseball League along with a number of other Pirates prospects.

In 35 games with the Blue Sox, Bowen slashed .268/.329/.417 with six doubles, two triples, three home runs, 18 RBIs and three steals. He was joined on the team by fellow Pittsburgh farmhands such as outfielder Sammy Siani and Australian-native Solomon Maguire among others on the team.

Bowen said that while the experience was quite different from what he’s used to in the United States—both because of the play style and the culture shock—he still learned quite a bit, gaining valuable experience in the batter’s box with every pitch he saw.
