Pirates Prospect Watch: Palacios Brothers Shine in Indy

Pittsburgh Pirates, Jase Bowen

A pair of Pirates’ minor league games were rained out on Friday as storms continued to sweep the east coast. The Bradenton Marauders were the only team that won, picking up a 6-0 shutout win as the rest of the organization’s teams suffered down nights from their pitching.

Indianapolis (9-16)

Indianapolis fell 7-4 at home to the Columbus Clippers after Columbus put up back-to-back three run frames in the middle innings.

CF Josh Palacios

Palacios went 3-for-5 on the day with a pair of doubles and a two-run home run in the seventh inning. He also added an outfield assist, nailing a runner at the plate in the sixth.

Funnily enough, Josh’s younger brother Richie Palacios also played center field in this game and hit a home run, but he suited up in the opposing uniform.

1B Aaron Shackelford

Shackelford also hit a home run, but a pair of strikeouts limited his effectiveness.

Altoona (9-8)

GAME POSTPONED – MAKEUP SCHEDULED FOR 4/28

Greensboro (13-5)

Rain canceled the Grasshoppers’ game on Thursday night, setting them up for a Friday doubleheader. They only managed to play one of those games, though, as residual storms continued to sweep the area.

The Rome Braves two-hit Greensboro in the first game of the planned doubleheader, winning 6-0. As such, there wasn’t much to highlight.

Game 1

3B Jackson Glenn

Glenn hit a fourth inning double, the only extra base knock the Grasshoppers managed on the day.

RHP Oliver Mateo

Mateo pitched a clean sixth inning that included a strikeout looking.

Game 2

GAME POSTPONED – MAKEUP SCHEDULED FOR 4/29

Bradenton (12-7)

The Marauders allowed just three hits (although they issued five free passes). Starter Thomas Harrington went six strong innings, Elijah Birdsong added a pair of scoreless frames and Mike Walsh put the Dunedin Blue Jays to bed with a pair of strikeouts in the ninth.

The Marauders’ seven and eight hitters went a combined 4-for-7 with two walks and a home run.

3B Deivis Nadal

Nadal hit a two-out home run in the second inning to get the scoring started, adding a walk and a single as he went 2-for-4 on the day.

C Geovanny Planchart

Planchart went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, all while calling the shutout.

CF Tres Gonzalez

Gonzalez added a home run of his own, drawing a bases-loaded free pass to score another run as he walked twice on the day.
