Pirates Prospects
Pirates Prospect Watch: Bae Dominates, Greensboro Plays Football
On Friday’s version of Pirates Prospect Watch, we gave a little insight into what to look forward to as the minor league season gets back to action following the All-Star break. In Saturday’s version, we are back to giving the good info on the Pirates’ prospects and Friday’s results. Who performed up to snuff down on the Pirates’ farm?
Indianapolis Indians
CF Ji-Hwan Bae
Game: 3-5 with a double and two RBIs
Season: .300/.367/.457 slash line, 41 RBIs, and 29 extra-base hits in 313 at-bats
LF, Jack Suwinski
Game: 2-4 with two home runs and three RBIs
Season: Has only had eight at-bats in Triple-A since being optioned from Pittsburgh
Despite Suwinski and Bae having terrific games at the plate, the Indians fell 9-8 in the 10th inning against the St. Paul Saints. Bae continued to show an excellent approach at the plate, and we may see him get a call to the majors sooner than later.
Altoona Curve
LF Fabricio Macias
Game: 1-4 with a double plating three runs
Season: In 12 games with the Curve, Macias is slashing .348/.340/.478 with 11 RBIs
DH, Aaron Shakelford
Game: 2-3, with one RBI and a home run
Season: .265/.333/.542 slash line, 48 RBIs, and 16 home runs in 238 at-bats.
There really wasn’t much to talk about during the Altoona game, with Shakelford being the only player with multiple hits and the Curve having untimely errors. Altoona fell 7-5 against the Harrisburg Senators.
Greensboro Grasshoppers
2B Jackson Glen
Game: 2-4 with three RBIs
Season: .228/.308/.342 slash line, 19 RBIs, and three home runs in 184 at-bats.
CF, Hudson Head
Game: 3-5, with a two-run home run and three RBIs
Season: .225/.337/.354 slash line, 27 RBIs, and six home runs in 240 at-bats
This game was more like a low-scoring football game than a baseball game. The final score read 12-10 as the Grasshoppers beat the Hickory Crawdads in a wild game. Nothing like the (un)friendly pitchers ballpark that is First National Bank Field in Greensboro.
Bradenton Marauders
SS, Tsung-Che Cheng
Game: 1-3, with an RBI double
Season: .237/.321/.381 slash line, 28 RBIs, 17 steals, and four homers in 236 at-bats
C, Wyatt Hendrie
Game: 1-3, with a two-RBI double
Season: .234/.331/.366 slash line, 13 RBIs, and three home runs in 145 at-bats.
Let’s just call this a game of errors. The Marauders had four errors in 6.1 innings of play. The game was called due to rain, and the Marauders fell 7-6 to the Clearwater Threshers. Another fun fact, the Marauders went 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position, and no player had more than one hit.
