Which Pirates Prospects Landed on Keith Law’s Top 100 MLB Prospects List?
Keith Law of The Athletic released his top 100 prospect list Monday morning. For most of you in Pittsburgh, your eyes were glued to who made the cut amongst the Pirate’s minor leaguers. There is no doubt that the Pirate’s system has bolstered itself as a riser, and according to Law, six Bucco prospects are in the top 100.
20. Henry Davis
57. Quinn Priester
65. Oneil Cruz
77. Liover Peguero
83. Roansy Contreras
93. Nick Gonzales
Davis, of course, was the first pick in the 2021 draft and his high ranking is a good sign. Law calls him a “sponge for new information” and says that it “bodes well for his transition to catching regularly in pro ball this year”. His bat remains his best asset.
Next on the list is Quinn Preister, who was the Pirates first round pick in 2019. Law remains bullish on the young pitcher saying he has “No. 2 starter upside”.
Law is unsure if the 6-7 Oneil Cruz will be able to play shortstop in the Major Leagues, but he loves his bat saying “that he projects to be an impact hitter at any position.”
Liover Peguero, a shortstop acquired in the Starling Marte trade is viewed by Law as a utility infielder with a high floor and a potential 20/20 guy.
Pirates right-handed pitcher Raonsy Contreras slots in at number 83 and second baseman Nick Gonzalez, the No. 7 pick in the 2020 draft brings up the rear at number 93.
Over at Pirates Prospects, John Dreker has his own thoughts on Law’s list, how it compares to the Baseball Prospectus list and any differences in opinion.
