Two Homers From Bryan Reynolds Not Nearly Enough as Pirates Get Swept By Brewers

Bryan Reynolds hit two homers and drove in five runs, but his performance wasn’t nearly enough in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ 12-5 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field on Wednesday afternoon.
How We Got There
Pirates starter Mitch Keller (5-11) held the Brewers (76-44) at bay through the first two innings before RBI singles from Sal Frelick and Christian Yelich gave Milwaukee a 2-0 lead in the third.
The Brewers scored four runs on four-straight hits in the bottom of the fourth. Joey Ortiz and William Contreras hit RBI singles while Frelick and Isaac Collins each doubled home a run.
Reynolds hit a three-run home run off Shelby Miller in the fifth to get the Pirates (51-71) on the board and added a two-run homer off Nick Mears the following inning.
But the Brewers scored six unanswered runs off Pittsburgh’s bullpen to end the game for their 12-straight win. The Pirates have lost five in a row.
Key Moment
After Bryan Reynolds’ two home runs got the Pirates back within a run, William Contreras shot an opposite-field single into right field off Carmen Mlodzinski in the sixth.
Star of the Game
Bryan Reynolds recorded a season-high five RBI on his two home runs in a losing effort from the Pirates.
Stat to Know
This was the eighth multi-homer game for Bryan Reynolds and his first of the season. The last time he hit multiple home runs in a game was when he slugged a pair at Yankee Stadium last year on Sep. 27.
