Report: Pirates First-Round Pick Termarr Johnson To Take Physical Friday
Pittsburgh Pirates’ 2022 first-round selection Termarr Johnson was seen in the service tunnel at PNC Park after Thursday night’s 8-7 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies.
According to multiple reports, Johnson is in Pittsburgh to take his physical on Friday.
Once Johnson takes his physical and assuming there are no issues, it’s fair to say that the Pirates and Johnson could put pen to paper in short order as Johnson will officially join the Pirates’ organization.
Johnson was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates with the fourth pick of the MLB draft earlier this month. The 18-year-old shortstop from Georgia was considered to be the top hitter available in this year’s draft class, and might be the best pure prep hitter in decades. In addition to his pure hitting ability, Johnson also possesses strong power potential.
The bonus slot attached to the fourth pick in this year’s draft is $7,005,800.
Seventeen of the Pirates’ first 21 selections have already signed, and Johnson is the only one selected in the first 12 rounds yet to finalize a contract.
Once Johnson officially signs, he almost certainly be assigned to the Florida Complex League.
