Pirates Place Velasquez on 15-Day IL; Activate De Jong From Rehab Assignment

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that they have placed RHP Vince Velasquez on the 15-day IL with right elbow inflammation. In addition, Chase De Jong has been activated from his rehab assignment and has been placed back on the major league roster.

In some minor league news, Drew Maggi has cleared waivers and was outrighted to the Pirates Double-A affiliate in Altoona.

Velasquez left Thursday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays after the third inning, when he was visibly grabbing his right arm in discomfort.

De Jong made three appearances in the Pirates Triple-A affiliate (one start), pitched four innings, gave up three hits, no earned runs, walked three, and struck out four.
