Pirates Spring Preview: Paul Skenes Takes Mound in Prospect Battle After Grapefruit League Game

Paul Skenes will be the starting pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates in their Spring Breakout game against the Baltimore Orioles at LECOM Park at 7:05 ET.



Skenes is one of a handful of top prospects for the Pirates who will take on top prospect Jackson Holliday and the Orioles.

Skenes, who MLB Pipeline ranks as their top pitching prospect and Holliday, who is considered the top prospect in baseball, will matchup again. The duo previously faced each other in a Grapefruit League game when Skenes induced a groundout against his counterpart.

On the position player side of things for the Pirates, 2022 first-rounder Termarr Johnson will be in uniform. The other participants for the Pirates can be found HERE.

The game will be televised on SportsNet Pittsburgh.

Prior to the start of their Spring Breakout game, the Pirates have a standard Grapefruit League game, also against the Orioles at LECOM Park. First pitch is set for 3:05 ET.

Left-hander Marco Gonzales will make his third start of the spring for Pittsburgh. Through his first two starts, Gonzales has a 9.00 with five earned runs against him in as many innings pitched.

The Pirates will be up against right-hander Grayson Rodriguez, who is 1-0 with a 3.68 ERA through three starts.
