Pirates Select Hot Prospect Nick Yorke From Indy; Full Analysis
The Pittsburgh Pirates are calling up one of their top prospects. The Pirates have selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Nick Yorke from Triple-A Indianapolis. Yorke is batting seventh and playing second base in what will be his MLB debut against the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday.
Yorke was acquired by the Pirates from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for right-hander Quinn Priester leading up to this year’s trade deadline.
The 22-year-old has been playing well since he was acquired by the Pirates. In 40 games with Indianapolis, he slashed .355/.431/.507. Since making his debut with the team, he led the International League with 54 hits and 17 doubles. He added a pair of homers, drove in 26 runs and stole seven bases.
Primarily a second baseman, Yorke has gotten more play in the outfield, especially after he joined the Pirates’ organization. He has experience in all three outfield spots as well as shortstop and third base.
Yorke was originally selected by the Red Sox with the 17th pick in the 2020 draft. In four minor-league seasons, the right-handed hitter has a .284/.365/.443 batting line across 410 games.
He’s ranked as the Pirates’ sixth-best prospect according to MLB Pipeline.
To make room for Yorke on the roster, the Pirates have optioned infielder Alika Williams to Triple-A. Williams has appeared in 37 games in the big leagues this season and has hit .207 with a .541 OPS.
