Pirates Roster Moves: Hunter Barco Optioned, Veteran Reliever Selected

The Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned left-handed pitcher Hunter Barco to Triple-A Indianapolis and selected the contract of right-hander Chris Devenski. To make room for Devenski on the 40-man roster, fellow right-hander Ryan Harbin was designated for assignment.
Barco has had two different stints with the Pirates this season and is 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA across five appearances. The Pirates recalled Barco prior to Tuesday night’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals and he allowed five runs while covering the final 4.2 innings in relief of starter Braxton Ashcraft.
Devenski was signed by the Pirates as a minor-league free agent in the offseason. In five appearances (one start) with Indianapolis, the right-hander had a 1.13 ERA with 14 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .143 batting average across eight innings.
A 10-year major league veteran, Devenski was an All-Star with the Houston Astros in 2017. In 316 appearances/eight starts between six teams, the 35-year-old has a career record of 27-22 with a 3.91 ERA and eight saves. In 416.2 innings, he’s allowed 353 hits, walked 116 and struck out 429.
Devenski made 13 appearances with the New York Mets last season and had a 2.16 ERA.
Harbin, a 17th round pick of the Pirates in the 2019 draft, was placed on the 60-day injured list on March 18 with a right lat strain and has not appeared in a game this season. Across five minor-league seasons, the 24-year-old is 7-14 with a 4.74 ERA.
