The Pirates have placed left-handed relief pitcher Evan Sisk on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to July 1) with with left elbow inflammation. Right-hander Hunter Stratton has been recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis to take his place.

Sisk has been a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster bullpen for the Pirates this season. In 32 appearances on the year, the 29-year-old is 1-0 with a 2.23 ERA. He’s totaled 36.1 innings with 13 walks and 43 strikeouts. Among left-handed relievers to log at least 30 innings this season, Sisk ranks ninth in MLB and fifth in the National League in ERA.

Stratton was acquired from the Braves for catcher Joey Bart on June 18. The 29-year-old was sent to Indianapolis after the trade and made four-scoreless appearances, totaling 5.1 innings with two hits, two walks, seven strikeouts and one save.

It’s a reunion for the Pirates and Stratton, who was drafted by the organization in the 16th round in 2017 and totaled 47 relief appearances for Pittsburgh between 2023-25. During his first stint with the Pirates, Stratton went 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 52.1 innings. He was traded to the Braves last year on July 1 for outfield prospect Titus Dumitru and cash considerations.

In 60 career big-league appearances, the right-hander is 3-2 with a 3.75 ERA and a pair of saves.

Stratton made one appearances for the Braves this season and threw a scoreless innings against the Rockies in Colorado on May 2. Atlanta designated him for assignment the day before he was traded to the Pirates.
