Pirates Roster Moves: Cam Sanders Recalled Once Again

The Pirates have recalled right-handed reliever Cam Sanders from Triple-A Indianapolis ahead of Wednesday’s game against the Phillies. He takes the place of right-hander Brandan Bidois, who was optioned to Indianapolis.
This stint will be Sanders’ fifth with the Pirates this season. In six appearances with Pittsburgh on the year, Sanders is 0-0 with a 9.00 ERA and has allowed six hits with five walks and eight strikeouts in six innings.
The 29-year-old has spent most of the season with Indianapolis, where’s he’s gone 0-2 with a 2.96 ERA in 22 appearances. In 24.1 innings, he’s allowed eight earned runs on 17 hits with 17 walks and 44 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .195 batting average.
Sanders has pitched well of late. In his last 12 appearances with Indianapolis dating back to May 15, Sanders had a 1.50 ERA with five hits allowed and 27 strikeouts in 15 innings.
Bidois recorded two outs in the eighth inning of the Pirates’ 8-0 loss to the Phillies on Tuesday night before he was replaced by position-player Tyler Callihan. Bidois allowed three runs on four hits with a walk and two strikeouts.
The 25-year-old has totaled 15 appearances with the Pirates on the season and is 0-0 with a 6.32 ERA. He’s struck out 20 batters, walked 12 and allowed 19 hits in 15.2 innings.
Pittsburgh’s bullpen ranks 23rd in MLB and 12th in the National League with a 4.44 ERA.
