Who’s Hot/Who’s Not

Who’s Hot: Chase De Jong, in his last 13.2 innings pitched, has posted a 2.63 ERA, including his four no-hit innings Tuesday night.

Who’s Not: In his last 53 at-bats, Oneil Cruz has registered just six hits and struck out 25 times in that span. As The American Dream Dusty Rhodes once said, “you don’t know what hard times are, daddy!”

Tidbits:

  • Bryan Reynolds’ error in the second inning Tuesday was his first since June 18, 2021. That snapped a streak of 180 consecutive errorless games in the outfield (1,483.1 innings), the second-longest streak by a Pirates outfielder since 1901 and nine games shy of Andrew McCutchen’s team record of 189 from April 30, 2012-June 1, 2013.
  • Kevin Padlo became the 60th player used by the Pirates this season when he started at first base Tuesday. That is the msot of amny team in the major leagues this season. The Angels are second with 58. The Pirates used a club-record of 64 players last season.
  • This is the first time the Pirates have hosted the Red Sox since sweeping a three-game series from Sept. 16-18, 2014. Pittsburgh is 6-4 all-time against Boston at PNC Park, including wins in six of the last eight games. The Bucs are also 11-4 at home against teams from the American League East, dating to May 21, 2014.
