Potanko: My Pirates Top 30 Prospects List
On Monday, Pittsburgh Baseball Now released a Pittsburgh Pirates top 30 prospect list. The list was a group effort from John Perrotto, Danny Demilio, and Cody Potanko (me).
Tuesday afternoon, Danny released his Pirates prospects top 30 list, with Henry Davis topping the list at No. 1. My list went in a bit of a different direction, with 2019 first-round pick Quinn Priester on top. The pick may be a tad controversial, but it’s not like Priester isn’t deserving.
Lists like this create conversation, and having a guy like Endy Rodriguez sit at No. 2 is the perfect spark for conversation. Rodriguez has shown immense athleticism playing in the outfield, infield, and catcher.
Many believed Rodriguez would move from catcher with Henry Davis coming to town. Yet with health issues and some trouble behind the plate for Davis, we could be talking about Rodriguez as the Pirates’ catcher of future.
With many Pirates prospects deserving of making the top 30 list, it became difficult as I got towards the end. Matt Gorski just missed the list along with Matt Fraizer.
On Wednesday, John will give you his Pirates’ prospect’s top 30 list, but before that, my list is below. Were there any Pirates prospects that you wanted to see on the list?
