Pirates Prospect Watch: Bradenton’s Offense Explodes in 8-1 Win

The Pittsburgh Pirates may have had an exciting game against the St. Louis Cardinals, but there was plenty of excitement to go around in their farm system.

Several prospects like Lonnie White Jr., Bubba Chandler, Termarr Johnson, and others showed up on Saturday. In addition, there were some dark horse prospects that had a huge game.

One name in particular is Omar Alfonso in Bradenton.

Indianapolis (59-70)

CF Ryan Vildae

  • Game stats: 2-4, a double, a run scored, and an RBI
  • Season stats: .261/.369/.364, five homers, three triples, ten doubles, and 43 RBIs (371 at-bats, or 105 games)

SS/LF Chris Owings

  • Game stats: 2-4, with a run scored
  • Season stats: .234/.343/.414, ten homers, two triples, 13 doubles, and 29 RBIs (261 at-bats, or 72 games)

Another game against Buffalo and another loss against Buffalo for the Indians. This time, Indianapolis lost 7-3, with Jared Jones giving up five earned runs in five innings pitched.

Vilade and Owings were the only Indians to have more than one hit.

Altoona (58-64)

DH Jackson Glenn

  • Game stats: 2-4 with an RBI
  • Season stats: .293/.358/.473, 11 homers, three triples, 17 doubles, and 54 RBIs (311 at-bats, or 81 games between High-A and Double-A)

LF Lolo (Kevin) Sanchez

  • Game stats: 3-4 with an RBI
  • Season stats: .220/.331/.320, five homers, 11 doubles, and 25 RBIs (259 at-bats, or 81games)

The Curve dropped a challenging game on Saturday to Erie in extra innings. A wild pitch from Cameron Junker allowed Erie to walk it off by a score of 3-2.

Lolo Sanchez led both teams with three hits.

Greensboro (65-57)

C Wyatt Hendrie

  • Game stats: 2-4, with a double, and three RBIs
  • Season stats: .211/.320/.336, six homers, two triples, 11 doubles, and 31 RBIs (265 at-bats, or 77 games between Low-A and High-A)

RHP Bubba Chandler

  • Game stats: 5.0 IP, four hits, one run, two walks, and four strikeouts
  • Season stats: 9-4, 4.75 ERA, 106.0 IP, 51 walks, and 120 strikeouts in 24 games (24 starts)

The Grasshoppers offense exploded for eight runs in their 8-1 win over Hickory. RHP Bubba Chandler touched the high 90s in his outing and continued to show why he’s among the Pittsburgh Pirates’ top pitchers in the system.

Termarr Johnson drove in two runs and had a double to boot.

Bradenton (70-52)

2B Mitch Jebb

  • Game stats: 3-4 with one run scored
  • Season stats: .296/.374/.370, two triples, four doubles, and seven RBIs (108 at-bats, or 27 games)

CF Lonnie White Jr.

  • Game stats: 2-3, a double, homer, two runs scored, two walks, and an RBI
  • Season stats: .283/.416/.485, eight homers, one triple, 14 doubles, 16 stolen bases, and 38 RBIs (198 at-bats, or 54 games between the FCL and Low-A)

1B Omar Alfonso

Game stats: 4-5, two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs

Season stats: .267/.410/.411, four homers, one triple, seven doubles, and 38 RBIs (146 at-bats, or 52 games between the FCL and Low-A)

One of the Pittsburgh Pirates top prospects, Lonnie White Jr. had a night for Bradenton with both hits resulting in extra bases, but Omar Alfonso had a career night with two doubles, a triple, and four RBIs.

White Jr. and Alfonso fueled the Marauders 9-3 win over Palm Beach. In addition, the Marauders bullpen pitched five shutout innings after Owen Kellington gave up two earned runs (three in total) during his 4.0 innings pitched.
