Pirates Prospect Watch: Henry Davis Continues Solid Play In Arizona Fall League
A day after highlighting Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Nick Gonzales in the Arizona Fall League, it’s Henry Davis’ turn to get some recognition.
In the Surprise Saguaros’ 7-1 win over the Scottsdale Scorpions on Monday night, Davis had a strong game at the plate as he reached bases four times.
In his first at-bat, Davis recorded his third double of the AFL season. The 2021 first-overall pick then drew a pair of walks and was hit by a pitch for the second time in four games.
After his performance at the plate, Davis is hitting .300 with a 1.156 OPS. Davis served as the team’s designated hitter in Tuesday’s game.

In 59 games in the minors in 2022, Davis wrapped up his season with a .264/380/.472 triple slash. He slugged 10 homers, drove in 42 runs and swiped nine bases in 11 attempts.
Despite playing in just 59 games, Davis was hit by a pitch 20 times.
One of those hit by pitches resulted in a wrist injury for the 23-year-old which forced him to miss nearly two months of action.
The missed time of course is part of the reason for Davis participating in the AFL this year as the Pirates are looking to make up for time lost from the regular season.
Davis is considered to be arguably Pittsburgh’s top prospect and is considered to be a Top 20 prospect according to MLB Pipeline.Â
A natural catcher, Davis appeared in the outfield briefly for the first time as a professional this season with Double-A Altoona.
