Joshua Palacios, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates have optioned infielder Nick Gonzales and outfielder Joshua Palacios to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Gonzales hit .257 with a .726 OPS in 14 games on the spring. The 2020 first-rounder hit three doubles and homered once.

The 24-year-old made his major-league debut last season with the Pirates. In 35 games, Gonzales slashed .209/.268/.348 with eight doubles, a triple, two home runs and 13 RBIs.

A lower-leg injury delayed Palacios’ Grapefruit League start. He went hitless in 12 at-bats this spring and drew a pair of walks.

Palacios played in 91 games last season in Pittsburgh and hit .239 with a .692 OPS, nine doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 40 RBIs.

There are 43 players left in Pirates’ big-league camp.
