Pirates Minor League Report: Konnor Griffin Off to Hot Start in Triple-A

Konnor Griffin, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pittsburgh Pirates weren’t the only ones to kick off their 2026 season last week.

Triple-A Indianapolis had a three-game series over the weekend against the St. Paul Saints. Although they were swept by the Saints, there are a couple players with Indianapolis worth highlighting.

Konnor Griffin

Konnor Griffin was surely disappointed to not start the season with the Pirates after the decision towards the end of spring training to send him to the minor leagues. But the 19-year-old picked up right where he left off last year and had quite the showing to begin his Triple-A career.

Griffin reached base safely eight times in 13 trips to the plate — he finished 5 for 10 with two doubles, an RBI, three runs, two walks and a pair of stolen bases. On Sunday afternoon, he just missed out on his first home run, instead settling for a double off the left field fence and added a second two-bagger later in the game.

If Griffin keeps this up, it won’t be long until he debuts for the Pirates.

Dominic Fletcher

Dominic Fletcher, who was signed as a minor-league free agent during the offseason, also had a strong weekend with Indianapolis. In three games, he went 4 for 11 with a double, a home run, two RBI and four runs.

Fletcher appeared in 12 games for the Chicago White Sox last season and hit .219 with a .733 OPS, five doubles, one home run, two RBI and a stolen base. He spent the rest of the season with Triple-A Charlotte where he hit .260 with a .770 OPS, 19 doubles, four triples, 17 home runs, 68 RBI and seven steals in 106 games.

Also of Note

  • OF Ronny Simon played in two of the three games for Indianapolis and reached base six times. He had three hits (all singles) in five at-bats, drew three walks and drove in three runs.
  • Fresh off a strong spring, INF Alika Williams only played in one game but went 3 for 4 with a double, a triple and two RBI.

The Indians are off on Monday and will start a six-game series at Columbus on Tuesday night. Double-A Altoona, High-A Greensboro and Low-A Bradenton will all start their seasons on Thursday.
