Pirates Place Hunter Stratton on 60-Day IL, Select Brady Feigl
As expected, the Pittsburgh Pirates have placed right-handed reliever Hunter Stratton on the 60-day injured list, ending his 2024 season. Stratton ruptured his left knee patella tendon in the Pirates’ 10-2 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday night.
On a return throw from catcher Joey Bart on a wild pitch, the ball kicked off of Stratton’s glove and headed to the backstop. As Stratton ran to retrieve the ball, he lost his footing and fell to the ground in pain. Eventually, Stratton was taken off the field on a medical cart.
Stratton made 36 appearances with the Pirates this season and went 2-1 with a 3.58 ERA. The 27-year-old recorded his first-career save on Mar. 31 in Miami and earned his first big-league win against the Giants on Apr. 27.
Stratton made his major-league debut with the Pirates last season and posted a 2.25 ERA across eight appearances at the end of the season.
To take his spot in the bullpen, the Pirates selected the contract of left-handed reliever Brady Feigl from Triple-A Indianapolis.
The Pirates signed Feigl as a minor-league free agent in the offseason and the left-hander has spent the season at Triple-A. In 33 appearances, he went 7-2 with a 3.83 ERA and struck out 62 batters in 51.2 innings pitched.
Feigl’s first appearance with the Pirates will mark his MLB debut. He’s spent seven seasons in the minor leagues from 2014-19. In 177 career minor-league games between the Atlanta Braves and Texas Rangers, Feigl has gone 24-9 with a 2.96 ERA. He had been pitching in the independent league the past two seasons after not pitching from 2020-21.
