Pirates Hire Miguel Perez as Bullpen Coach
The Pittsburgh Pirates have filled their final coaching staff vacancy. The club announced on Thursday that Miguel Perez has been hired as the bullpen coach.
Perez, 41, had been serving as the manager of Triple-A Indianapolis for the past three seasons. Prior to taking over with Indianapolis, Perez managed at several stops in the Pirates’ system, including Altoona, Greensboro and Bristol.
“Miggy is one of the most highly respected members of our player development system who has not only had a meaningful impact on our players but also other managers and coaches throughout the organization,” said Pirates manager Derek Shelton. “His passion for the organization along with all the other intangibles that he will bring to our staff and players is something that we are excited about at the big league level.”
Perez was the recipient of the 2015 Chuck Tanner Award at spring training in 2015. The award is given annually since 2011 by the Pirates player development department to someone on the minor league staff who best exemplifies Tanner’s optimism, work ethic and leadership,
As a player, Perez was signed by the Cincinnati Reds as an amateur free agent in 200. He played 12 seasons in the minor leagues, including parts of four seasons in the Pirates’ organization. Perez appeared in two games in the big leagues for the Reds in 2005.
Perez replaces Justin Meccage, who was dismissed following the end of the 2024 regular season.
