Pirates Option Cal Mitchell to Triple-A, Reassign Nick Gonzales to Minor League Camp

The Pittsburgh Pirates have announced that they have optioned OF Cal Mitchell to Triple-A and reassigned INF Nick Gonzales to minor league camp. The Pirates’ active big league camp roster is now at 48.

Mitchel has had 32 at-bats for the Pirates so far in spring training and is carrying a .219 average with three RBIs and an OPS of .492.

Gonzales has had an impressive spring so far with the Pirates and has been hitting the ball hard. To go along with hitting the ball hard, Gonzales has carried a .391 average in 23 at-bats with a home run, two RBIs, and an OPS of .962.

The Pirates outfield battle is starting to look better and better for spring training standout Travis Swaggerty with the Mitchell option to Triple-A.
