PBN Three Stars of the Week
Pittsburgh Pirates Three Stars Of The Week: Aug. 1-7
To begin the month of August, the Pittsburgh Pirates had an impressive three-game sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park. To follow up the hot start, the Pirates dropped the first two games to the Orioles in Baltimore before salvaging the final game on Sunday with an impressive 8-1 win.
Several Pirates provided sparks in the 4-2 week, including another strong outing from the resurged Mitch Keller. Though Keller turned in a quality performance on the mound, it was three position players who earned the honors for the Pittsburgh Pirates’ three stars of the week to begin August.
Third Star:Â Oneil Cruz – .217/.280/.609, 5 for 23 with three home runs, seven RBIs and four runs in six games
While Cruz only had five hits on the week, his power was certainly on display as three left the ballpark. Cruz helped pace the Pirates’ offense from the middle of the order by driving in seven runs.

Second Star: Ben Gamel – .353/.476/.588, 6 for 17 with a double, a triple, an RBI and three runs in five games
Somewhat surprisingly, Gamel remained with the Pirates after the trade deadline. For the Bucs, it was a good thing he was still wearing the black and gold as the veteran outfielder had an impressive stretch of play at the plate and played a big part in the winning week.
First Star:Â Bryan Reynolds: .364/.482/.546, 8 for 22 with a double, a home run, three RBIs, three runs and two steals in six games
It was quite a week for Reynolds who did just about everything at the plate. Reynolds filled up the stat sheet and came up with some timely hits for the Bucs. None of those hits were bigger than his walk-off home run against the Brewers on Wednesday.
