Pittsburgh Pirates Bryan Reynolds Diego Castillo

The Pittsburgh Pirates have re-instated outfielder Bryan Reynolds from the paternity leave list. The Pirates have optioned infielder Diego Castillo to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room for Reynolds. The Pirates placed Reynolds on the paternity list on Jul. 28, and he was present for the birth of his second child.

Castillo has been struggling during his time with the Pittsburgh Pirates for quite some time. Castillo is slashing .071/.188/.143 in 14 at-bats in just the past week’s worth of games. In his last 80 at-bats, Castillo has struck out 29 times, walked just four times, and has a batting average of .213.

Castillo, on the entire 2022 season, has a batting average of .201, ten homers, 25 RBIs, and 70 strikeouts in 239 at-bats which is right around 29% of the time.

In his last 15 games, Reynolds is hitting at a decent clip. In his last 47 at-bats, Reynolds is slashing .277/.404/.532 with three homers, seven RBIs, eight walks, and 12 strikeouts. Reynolds for the 2022 season is batting .254 with 15 homers, 32 RBIs, and an OPS of .788.

For you advanced stats fans, Reynolds has a wRC+ of 121, a wOBA of .341, and an ISO of .199.

We all know the “dad” strength that players can receive after returning from the birth of their child. Can Reynolds channel some of that strength and prevent the Pirates from getting swept by the Phillies Sunday afternoon?
